Established in 1877, Melrose is an unincorporated community in Alachua, Bradford, Clay, and Putnam counties. It lies 17 miles east of Gainesville and approximately 50 miles southwest of Jacksonville. The town is on Lake Santa Fe and the Santa Fe River and has a population of 6,258. The charming and historic town has art galleries, shops and restaurants.
